Bilkent University is a private university located in Ankara, Turkey. It was founded by Prof. İhsan Doğramacı in 1984, with the aim of creating a center of excellence in higher education and research. It was the first non-profit private university established in the country. The name Bilkent is an abbreviation of bilim kenti: Turkish for "city of science". It is constantly ranked among the top Turkish universities since its establishment. The medium of instruction is English.
Bilkent Theatre Department educates and trains undergraduate students to become top actors and theatre artists in Turkey and on the world stage, and enjoys a reputation of being a national first-choice for many students in Turkey. Our international faculty, training and realized production work enables students to interpret, analyze and perform in a variety of disciplines and styles from classical plays to cutting-edge post-modern theatre and from the stage to the screen. We believe in training students who are informed and inspired to continue to learn and grow and become leaders in their field and develop relevant theatrical experiences for the diverse communities that they serve.
Bilkent Department of Theatre is a proud member of ITI/UNESCO Network for Higher Education in the Performing Arts and has active bı-lateral collaborations with Shanghai Theatre Academy and Texas Tech University-School of Theatre and Dance.
